We leave our AT file server, running Novell ANetWare 2.0a, on 24 hours/day, 
7 days a week. When not in the office, the monitor, of course, gets turned 
off. Have also put more than a surge protector on the machine, in the form 
of a voltage regulator. 

There was a fire in downtown Honolulu that caused the power to go out, but
beyond that, haven't had a problem since about May of this year. A surge 
protector will guard against a sudden spike in voltage, but does nothing
for brownouts. Hawaii has more low-power situations, so therefore, a regulator
would be more helpful.
