Given recent history: 8008->8080->8086-> 80186->80286->80386 and CPM->MSDOS->OS/2; it seems that this is essential for any competing OS. The question is: can OS/2 be true to its traditions, still have a future when the 80386 is history, and not collapse under its own weight in the end? My personal opinion is there is no good reason to take that risk; UNIX(TM) will be there on the next generation of processors, and the generation following that one...
