Unless the Tandy hard disk has it embedded in there - for $699 for a mere 20 meg, they'd better! Generally, the components required are: a) HCA - Host computer adapter b) Hard Disk Controller card c) Hard Disk (ST506/ST412 type) d) Case, Cables, and Power supply. The HCA is best obtained either from OWLWARE or from Bruce Isted. Owlware uses a SCSI/SASI type intyerface to a Xebec style controller card.. Bruce uses an HDO bus to a WD-1002-05 type card. The former are a little cheaper and easier to find, while I belive the latter offers better performance. Price ranges on HCA are approximately $75-$150, and the controller cards run $110-$190. Cables are trivial - usually a 40 or 50 pin from HCA to the controller, and a 34 pin and a 20 pin cable go from the disk controller to the drive - you can make 'em yourself with a little effort and save $$$. Disk shopping is best done in the Computer Shopper. I picked up a fast 40 megger a few weeks back for around $425. BTW - Owlware advertises in Rainbow I'm told (no longer subscribe), and Bruce is on te OS9 Forum on Compuserve. If there's a demand, I'm sure I could post his address. -- Pete Lyall Usenet: {trwrb, scgvaxd, ihnp4, voder, vortex}!wlbr!pete Compuserve: 76703,4230 (OS9 Sysop) OS9 (home): (805)-985-0632 (24hr./1200 baud)
