I just looked into my Mac Plus and was wondering if I can just
--  1) Pop in 1Meg x 8 SIMMs into the SIMM sockets,
    2) move the resistor from "256" to "one"?

Will the boot ROM go out and size all of that RAM or will other
tricks be needed?
