Apple has a multi-tiered setup for discounts, depending on what the school
is considering doing with them.

Dartmouth, for example, is part of the Apple University Consortium and is
producing Courseware and other neat things for the Macintosh, which are
available free (or freeish) to other universities.  Thus, since Dartmouth
is doing this nice thing for Apple, Apple gives Dartmouth nice prices.

Now, other schools may decide they can't afford to do this sort of development.
Thus, they get less amenable discounts.  It also depends on expected volume of
purchases.  In other words, it's different for every case.

There are about three different programs, depending on how many purchase your
school is willing to commit to over how long a period.  From what I've seen of
the discounts, though, the lowest level is about the same as a good discount
from a dealer.  So, unless you know someone at a school that gets a better
discount than yours, your best bet is to stick with your school's discount.
