As long as the powered-down HDU is plugged into the Scuzzy port, it will
tell the Mac that it isn't ready and will hang the system.  If you unplug
the HDU, it will allow the system to boot on it's merry way...

(It would be nice to easily be able to isolate the HDU from the Scuzzybus
 when powered-down... oh well.)
