I recently got hold of two double sided double density 5" floppy drives which had been part of a XEROX CP/M machine. They work well and I have installed one as drive :1 on my Mod 4. After changing the step rate on drive :1 and sysgen-ing it works great EXCEPT it will only function as a single sided drive. If I answer 2 to the SIDES? prompt from the format utility, it appears to fail to verify every track - it lockes them out (00* 01* ...) If, however, I use SuperCROSS/XT to format the disk as one of the double sided double density CP/M formats - it works just fine. It isn't - apparently - the hardware. WHAT MUST I DO?? ANY GUESSES ? e-mail please. -- These opinions are solely mine and in no way reflect those of my employer. John M.
