I can't resist putting in my 2 cents worth...
I have no idea why this change was made, but I always though the 
older way (arrange for R10 and R11 to have the cvec & br) was
pretty kludgey. The new way is more in keeping with proper C,
and perhaps easier to move to other architectures.
