Why can I afford to verify backup tapes on a VAX using the VMS operating system, but may not have the time nor utilites to verify backup tapes on a VAX using the UNIX operating system? The VMS operating system - DEC's proprietary operating system for it's VAXes - has a verify option. It is known as BACKUP/VERIFY referred to in DEC's VAX VMS Backup Utility Reference Manual, page 38. Both the VMS VAX(es) 11/785s and the UNIX VAX 8600 at my place of employment are production systems with gigabytes of data stored on DEC's RA81 and RA60 disk drives. There are second and third operators to perform tape backups. Scott Bemis Texas Instruments, Johnson City, TN !mcnc!rti!tijc02!root Phone: (615) 461-2959
