"Attempts"? "Few attempts"? That'll be news to the hundreds of hams who've talked to the shuttle. Owen Garriott alone made over 350 2-way contacts--and that was just the first of three hams-in-space. Anyway, yes, they were on 2m. (At least mostly--anybody know if DL-1 used other bands?)
