Mark may be paying for the use of violet, but that payment does not mean any guarantee of netnews service; as both Mike Meyer and I noted, netnews at the UCB Computer Center is an unsupported software system, maintained by Mike when he has time out from his other official duties. If Mark wants guaranteed netnews service, he should petition Academic Computing Services to make netnews an officially supported service.
