I don't understand all this anti-Matthew stuff. I've always found him to be a delightful person. The same goes for Gene Smith, who is the other Brahms Gang member I've had some contact with. As I stand on the sidelines and witness all these vitriolic flames, I'm motivated at last to post the opinion that in no case that I know of did Matthew or Gene ever do actual damage to another person. I knew that at one point, Matthew's access was removed; as I expected, he turned up elsewhere in almost no time. So he's irrepressible -- I like that. In general, I do not think the Brahms Gang has done anything that would justify writing to UC sys admins or department chairs and asking for denial of privileges. The only "crime" committed by Gene Smith that I know of is to use the language in a vigorous, energetic, and original manner. If that's a crime, it's one I approve of. I gather Matthew is currently not on the net. Last I heard, he had a thesis to write. I wish him luck. ==ARPA:===============anderson@vms.macc.wisc.edu===Jess Anderson====== | UUCP: {harvard, seismo, rutgers, (avoid ihnp4!) 1210 W.
