Lines: 34 The following is a very interesting letter in which Tim Maroney gets tough with our sysadmin who (the slime!) was not showing proper deference to his superiors. Finally he drops the lawsuit threat. The story I heard was that the "consultation with a friend" involved threats to the effect that baseball bats would be applied with considerable velocity to his property if he did not drop the lawsuit idea pronto. His notion that he could *win* such a lawsuit seems like good evidence for one of those assertions which have so annoyed Tim: that he is a complete fool. If you check the dates on the letters he has been sending, you will note they seem to be going out on a daily basis during this period! Date: Mon, 3 Aug 87 17:39:46 PDT From: hoptoad.UUCP!tim@cgl.ucsf.edu (Tim Maroney) To: postmaster@brahms.Berkeley.EDU After consultation with a friend, I have decided not to pursue the possibility of a lawsuit. It is my opinion that such a suit would be justified and would be successful; however, it would also have a chilling effect on the network as a whole if the precedent established was not entirely clear to everyone in a position of authority on the network, and of course it never could be made so clear. However, unless I hear from you by Wednesday, I will make an appointment with the math department chair, and I will supply him with the evidence of harrassment I have provided you before the meeting. I will be sure to mention the fact that you have rudely refused to respond to my complaints. Tim Maroney
