Please make a distinction in your discussion between program with large data spaces versus those complex problems. There are lots of fairly simple programs out there that have incredible memory requirements for the sake of big arrays. I don't think small programs are the "end all of computing," but the computer equivalents of E.F. Schmacher (sp "Small is Beautiful) do deserve to be heard. It is after all a rather complex world. --eugene
