Schumacher, Small Is Beautiful, Economics as if People Mattered Perennial Library, Harper & Rowe, 1973, New York. also recommended: George McRobie, Small is Possible, Harper & Rowe, 1981, New York. Victor Papenek, Design for the Real World, Bantam Books, 1973, Toronto. These books are really about "appropriate" design and technology, not really "small" designs, although many of them are small. I strongly recommend them for systems designers, i.e., sources of perspectives from design areas outside computing. -- -john mashey DISCLAIMER: UUCP: {decvax,ucbvax,ihnp4}!decwrl!mips!mash OR mash@mips.com DDD: 408-991-0253 or 408-720-1700, x253 USPS: MIPS Computer Systems, 930 E.
