You *can't* make PostScript outlines of Computer Modern with Metafont by setting tracingchoices to 1 and editing the log file. This is because Knuth's code for Computer Modern uses pens of finite size, and tracingchoices writes the pen track to the log file rather than the outline of the shape the pen draws. This must be true, because I had it from Knuth himself. The trick worked with my design because I didn't use pens, but drew the character outlines directly. My heartfelt apologies to anyone who has wasted time trying to do what can't be done. Richard Southall
