all of them have their origin in WorldWar II

SNAFU - Situation's Normal - All Fouled Up
TARFU - Things Are Realy Fouled Up
FUBAR - Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition.

There was a reference to a '78 issue of Byte on my table in former days,
but I have lost it.
