Either the client is not designed to or does not correctly implement
"volume startup" with plain text (clear text) passwords.  Setting a
volume to be startup on a server with only plaintext passwords under
the AppleShare client version 1.0 seems to really confuse it.  The
AppleShare 1.1 client seems to handle it better.

If you really need this facility, consider using the "lookaside"
password file facility (as hokey as it is, it does work).  This was
one of the primary reasons it was added.
