thanks for the observations - what you describe also bears an uncanny
similarity to the internals of the early TYMNET which aggregated bytes
from terminals and grouped them into frames which were sent reliably
on a hop-by-hop basis, broken down at each hop and re-formed based on
new traffic arriving at that node and the fact that the bytes in the
frame might be destined to flow out on different trunks and so had
to be re-marshalled into new frames.
