[...] More egg, Joanne.... :-) :-) There is a hardware stop for display DMA at data fetch cycle $18. Display DMA cannot occur before this cycle. This cycle, oddly enough, is *just* after the data fetch for sprite 0. So you'll never stomp the Intuition pointer. Which is what I think they had in mind. Footnote: A little experiment you might try is to 'run' Oing, then start up Preferences, and slowly drag the screen to the left. As you do so, you will slowly stomp over the sprite DMA slots, and Oing will start to fall apart.
