The reason that the new ShowANIM blanks the mouse cursor is not overscan or any DMA issue but simply to allow video recording of the animation being played. Old versions of ShowANIM required one to use preferences to change the pointer into something that can be hidden in the corner if you wanted to properly record the animation (it wouldn't do to have an arrow obscuring your unicycles), so Gary Bonham (the author of ShowANIM) changed it to automatically blank the pointer while playing. This shouldn't cause too many problems since the program is written for speed and is not intended to multitask... - Allen Hastings
