I was running Facc at the time, so I tried taking away all it's buffers. No change. I also tried closing facc. No change. I tried values from 1200 (the min) to 20000. 20000 slowed down a 9 second directory read by about a half second. Smaller values had no noticable effect. I was doing my tests under Shell 2.06m on DF1:.
