According to my sources, there are two reasons behind the "high" pricing
of the Mega-ST series:

    1-megabit dynamic ram chips are used exclusively in the -2 and -4
    models and due to various reasons these chips have not decreased
    significantly in price this year

    the dealer margin is being raised (similar to what Commodore is doing
    with the Amiga 2000)
