That's the 10-Mbyte "fixed disk" that IBM installed on the Personal Computer XT. On power-up, it begins to spin, then stops, and begins blinking its Led, one short on-blink, followed by three long on-blinks, followed by a long off interval. This pattern appears to be repeated indefinitely. If I cycle power off and on, the whole cycle (spin-up, shutdown, blinking) repeats. If I leave power applied for 30 minutes or so, and then cycle it off and on, the disk spins up and operates normally. I have replaced the drive, but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what the pattern means. Is it worth getting it fixed? -- Dave Levenson Westmark, Inc. A node for news.
