Lines: 29 Xref: mnetor comp.sys.ibm.pc:8656 comp.sys.att:1401 Does anyone out there have an AT&T 6300 with a Western Digital controller and ST225 hard disk(s) and the new 1.43 BIOS? We are trying to upgrade to the new BIOS and are having problems. We have two hard disks on the WD controller, which worked fine on the old 1.21 ROMS. We are having major problems getting both drives to work with the new ROMS. There seems to be some sort of conflict between the hard disk controlling code in the new ROMS and with the ROM on the controller card itself. We've tried using both settings on the third switch of SW1 on the AT&T. These supposedly switch between internal (1.43 ROMS) and external (controller ROMS) control of the hard disks. On internal control, the 6300's diagnostics recognize that two hard disks are installed, but then says "Optional ROM at c800" and dies. On external control, it doesn't say anything about the hard disks, does the optional ROM message and boots up on drive C, but claims drive D doesn't exist. What I'd like to be able to try is disabling the ROM on the controller card and trying it on internal control. So (finally) does anyone out there know how to disable the controller's ROM? I would hope it would be one of the jumpers on the controller, but the pitiful docs I got with it don't tell me sh*t. Thanks for any help. Tom -- Thomas P.
