I have a MacII, Apple modem 1200, Mac prep. adaptor cable, 
and 9-pin to 9-pin cable at home.  I use Macterminal 2.2
with no problem whatsoever.  What do you have the switches
on the modem 1200 set for?  On mine 1 is down, and 2 and 3
are up.
