Another (not so nice) possibility is that the dealer is a gray market
dealer who buys their stuff not from Apple, but from another Apple dealer
(in violation of that dealer's sales agreement). Since they have not
official standing with Apple, Apple wouldn't tell them anything or ship them
stuff...

Another reason to buy from an authorized dealer...
