Sounds to me like the alarm clock has gone off.  Usually turning off the
alarm will cure your problem.  I don't understand why pulling the battery
doesn't fix your problem.  Possibly the time when the alarm is supposed to
go off is recorded in the system file and when you pull the battery and then
reset the time it goes off again.
