It wasn't that way when I worked in the eastern regional sales office for Ridge (Lexington Mass). My site was called "rclex" and was connected to harvard (mail + full news feed), lincoln labs (mail), and a number of other local sites. Corporate was connected to riacs and hplabs for their primary news and mail feeds, I believe. The hplabs connection was assumed to be the lower quality link of the two.
