i would like to catch and record all console messages in
a manner similar to /usr/adm/messages under Sun/BSD Unix. 
my guess is that this involves some combination of kern_loop,
and cat -u > /usr/adm/messages, but if anyone else has tackled
this one already i'll not reinvent the wheel.

honestly, i find that the uerf mechanism is a complete shambles.
information is too hard to find, and it is *very* difficult to
locate a detailed section of properly time-sequenced events to
see exactly "what happened" before the system crashed.  does
anyone have an idea why DEC chose this vms-style error logging?
