Independent implementations of PostScript may not have the real
analytic PS fonts, but it shouldn't be very difficult to supply
analytic fonts with the same character dimensions as the real
ones.  This would give you most of what you want in a screen
previewer.  If the Berkeley folks would just release source, I'd
take a crack at this.
