Lines: 87 Keywords: hand gun, ban, gun control, weapons The topic of hand gun control is another of those issues that can never be agreed upon by the opposing sides since the issue involves more than just whether to ban/regulate/control hand guns. It just isn't that simple! The way I see it, through my Sharpshooter (7 bar) target pistol NRA rating, is that hand guns have their place just as do long-barrelled weapons. And that place isn't just to kill people! That place is wherever a legal owner (note that that excludes felons in most states) wants to keep it. That does not say s/he has the right to use it there. I keep several, all locked, that are target pistols. I do not feel that anyone has the right to take them or try to control what I use them for unless the intent is criminal in nature. My position comes not from whether it is good or bad to have guns, or if hand guns are merely (MERELY?) to kill people, but whether or not the government has the right to control aspects of my life to that extent. I think that some people should be restricted from having weapons. I think that ALL who want or have them should have to be trained and periodically tested in the upkeep, use and safety of the weapons and the household they are kept in. Any and all weapons should be registered at the time of sale, be the sale from a dealer or private citizen. But, IN MY OPINION, the government(s) have no right to tell me that I can, must, or cannot keep and bear arms. Their right to restrict me in this commences when and if I or any other gun owner becomes a menace to others or to society. THIS IS MY MAIN BITCH ABOUT GUN CONTROL. Control before the fact is encroachment on my rights. LACK OF CONTROL AFTER THE FACT IS ALSO ENCROACHMENT ON MY RIGHT! Get the penal system off its duff and properly punish the criminals and leave the law abiding citizens alone.
