Lines: 6 Keywords: output pagination The seperate CPU did little to offload work from the main CPU. The main reasdon it was there was so DEC didn't have to make special TOPS-20 tty cards. They just used the 11/40's UNIBUS. The machine still passed the characters to the main CPU one at a time, interrupting on each one. It's other big job in life is to print "%DECSYSTEM-20 NOT RUNNING" when the machine is down.
