I've been using a USR Courier HST (9600 baud) modem ($795) over dialup
lines quite heavily with almost no problems.  I think this beast uses a
USR-proprietary error correction scheme so it can only talk to another
Courier modem.  The only problem is establishing the connection, but
once hooked up, its 9600 baud dialup for hours.
