Summary: is OK with Unix after all

At the Univ of Minnesota we have a modem pool (RACAL 24 something)
with MNP level 3, connected to the department's Vax-780/4.3bsd.
My Wyse50 terminal at home is hooked to a CTS-AMH (24 something)
modem, with level 4 MNP. 
The CTS was solid from the beginning. The Racal-Vadics caused
some initial pain, but have been functioning for several months.
The Vax also needed some work.
However, now communication is decent, with MNP-3 at 2400 baud rate,
and I NEVER see an error.

I'm not a techie as far as these things go, so I wouldn't be able
to answer specific questions. For end-users like myself, the
connection appears to be working fine. Some times for many many
hours. 
Don't bury MNP, yet.

Usual disclaimer -- I have no interest in CTS, Racal etc. (However,
you might be interested in the price for the CTS: $325, at a local
retailer.)
