After reading the flame about the amod bug I am not sure I would agree.
I suspect the author was using the amod function to either logically
branch or find some discontinuous result.  In either case it is very
risky to do this with a finite precision machine.  Without knowing
what the author's intent was I don't think it appropriate to comment
further.
