By "pic", do you mean the picture-drawing troff preprocessor from AT&T Bell
Labs, or do you mean something different?

pic stuff | troff <options> | <troff-to-ps-filter>

pic translates pic language into ditroff input language.
troff translates this into ditroff output language.
Several companies make postscript postprocessors for ditroff.
