Message-ID: <31910@sun.uucp> Date: Sun, 25-Oct-87 01:04:05 EST Article-I.D.: sun.31910 Posted: Sun Oct 25 01:04:05 1987 Date-Received: Tue, 27-Oct-87 01:37:38 EST Sender: news@sun.uucp Lines: 31 Keywords: GNU Ruskies MACH Security Xref: mnetor comp.misc:1527 comp.os.misc:316 As per RMS/GNU's licensing info, it does not prevent anybody from exporting or dsitributing GNU freely in other countries (including Warsaw Pact). Now, 1. DOes DoD/NSA/Dept. of Commerce bar Software exports also to the russians? Some Saxpy employess were nabbed recently for attempting to smuggle their OS (presumably unix variant) to Russia. Certainly Unix, Mach would be hot items with the KGB. 2. If they are banned, they would surely ban GNU's software too. It would be interesting to see the outcome of GNU+MACH kernel, more so since DoD is expected to stop supporting BSD and shift towards Mach. Renu Raman PS/1: Oh! This is solely my opinion and during weekends I get access to this lovely world of Usenet to chit-chat. PS/2:(That's why IBM called it PS/2 - the OS was an afterthought :-) Do the Russians have Unix machines & conferences. If so, when is their Refusenix:-). --------------------- Renu Raman ARPA:ram@sun.com Sun Microsystems UUCP:{ucbvax, seismo, hplabs}!sun!ram M/S 5-40, 2500 Garcia Avenue, Mt. View, CA 94043
