Just a brief footnote: most of the commenters are seriously dating
themselves: ITS was written for the PDP-6 and safely predated the
ARPANET considerably.  I wasn't much of an AIlab hacker back then, but
I thought that the incompatible was less a comment in response to
CTSS, but to being incompatible with the DEC operating system for the 6.
