We have seen two companies that produce these, I'm sure there must be more. Digi-Data makes one that works with standard VHS tapes and Transitional Technology makes one that works with 8mm tapes. Has anyone bought and used this kind of item? Our needs include support of both VMS and Ultrix(Dec's Unix product). If you have experience with these, how reliable are they? How is their data retention? How well are the controllers designed? How is the performance? Generally what are your impressions of the product? Please e-mail your replies, if there is sufficient interest we will summarize the results. Marc Greisen ...fluke!tikal!phred!marcg
