Here is a second vote for _Engines_of_Creation_.
It's an excellent book.
I sort of like his ideas about bringing more scientific
debate into the open and out of those "Ivory Towers",
he echoes some themes of Jacoby's "The Last Intellectuals"
about the debilitating effects of having a high priesthood
that has shut itself off from the public arena.
