The parser recognizes basic SGML. SGML is an abbreviation of "Standard Generalized Markup Language". It is an ISO Standard, concerned with text processing. In SGML one describes the logical structure of a class of documents. The parser takes this description and checks whether it is correct. If so, the parser checks whether documents are conform this description. The parser is developed under SUN/Unix 4.2. and has been installed under VAX/VMS.
