I've never actually used REXX, and I've used UNIX shell, DCL, the Amiga script language, and a few others. After glancing through the AREXX manual yesterday, I can state with certainty that as a scripting language alone it's going to be much more powerful than any of the others I've yet seen (actually, there was one they were developing on the DEC-20s at CMU to replace the standard TOPS script language, though I haven't seen it anywhere else). That's not even considering the much tighter coupling you can get if a program specifically uses AREXX as a macro language. By the way, this is the only thing IBM that I've ever liked. PC-DOS, XEDIT, etc. are the worst of their type as far as I'm concerned. They got so many things wrong it just stands to reason that they must have done something right. I think REXX must be it. > Dave Tenny > VAX LISP development. > (Please won't somebody write Common Lisp for the Amiga...) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I'll second that one! -- Dave Haynie Commodore-Amiga Usenet: {ihnp4|caip|rutgers}!cbmvax!daveh "The B2000 Guy" PLINK : D-DAVE H BIX : hazy "Computers are what happen when you give up sleeping" - Iggy the Cat
