I found out the hard way that there is a misprint in the APPLE manuals. The warning that unpluging and plugging in of external disk drives on the //C *may* cause damage should be changed to read "Plugging in an external drive while the //C is turned on *WILL* result in expensive, instant damage. The logic board will have to be replaced.
