Science Lines: 36 Keywords: hard drive corvus berkeley boards Perhaps those of you who are more hardware-oriented can help me with this one: I want to get a hard drive for my ST, but am frugal and do not want to spend megabucks on a turnkey system. So, I have been saving my pennies for the Berkeley Boards (ST DMA to SCSI to ST506 converter boards) and keeping my eyes open for drive mechanisms. Well, I finally have found the drive mechanism, or so I hope. I have come into the guardianship :-) of two Corvus OMNINET disk servers. I could care less about the related hard ware, but inside these two disk servers lie two 20Mb drive mechanisms. They do not appear to be made by Corvus but by a company called IMI (or Internat'l Memories, Inc.) The model number on this is 5018H. Obviously I would *really* like to have 40Mb of hard drive, but am wondering if it will work or not. I do, of course, plan to try and get a hold of IMI, but a few questions: If they do not know if it is ST506 compatible, and I attempt to "go it on my own" after purchasing the Berkeley Boards, which is more apt to happen: will I fry the boards or the drive (I'd rather fry the drive; its more expendable.) Is there any board that converts from ST DMA to 5018H? :-) Thanks for any and all responses. Post to the net if you think others might benefit, or e-mail if not.
