According to a friend who was part of the team that did the mechanical design for the Lisa, the roller ball was designed to be washed with plain old soap and water and dried with any lint-free cloth. As for the roller bearing and the opto-detector shafts, I use a Q-tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol to get the gunk off them.
