Summary: character scanners and software: info wanted.

Our department is considering the purchase of a character scanner to use
with Mac Pluses and Mac IIs.  We need information about the hardware and
software required to read a variety of typefaces and styles.  The only
advertisement I have seen is for the DEST PC Scan, but I am sure it is not
the only one.  Any information would be appreciated, including advice
to wait and see what will come out soon.  Remarks from those with 
actual experience with a character scanner would particularly welcome.
