Actually, this binding is an effective protection scheme; most copy shops won't do this sort of work since most copy-shop owners don't especially like getting sued for everything they've ever owned. It is *illegal* to copy most manuals, and responsible, professional copy shops won't do it. I know that the Kinko's here require ID from me to copy my own copyrighted book.
