If you are using the new dialer It is off - the problem was CD being dropped. This is on dial in's not when the machine is dialing out. It put a little prog. in front of getty to sit and wait for "CONNECT..." before letting getty start and this worked fine but it then turned out the modem would not always go on hook when the remote modem dropped it's carrier - when in this state it would also not list en to any commands or attempts to return it to command state, i.e. it was effectively hung. > (state machine in /usr/lib/uucp/dialinfo) it gets confused when the modem > echos the "ATDTxxx-xxxx". Either that, or expand the dialinfo file to handle While on the subject of dialinfo - does anyone know how to get it to set the line's parity to cs7 parenb -parodd? It claims that C1 will "switch the parity and character length (presumably from the cs8 and -parenb it starts with) but this does not seem to be the case - I would like uucp to be able to dial up a host that uses cs7 parenb -parodd (or does uucp insist on cs8?) ? . . . > John Plocher uwvax!geowhiz!uwspan!plocher plocher%uwspan.UUCP@uwvax.CS.WISC.EDU Thanks for the attempt at help John, I appreciate it. So far I have been told that USR 2400 internal & external modems and the Multitech 224E work fine with microport so I shall probably try one of these. Any other modem recommendations (particularily for microport SysV) are most welcome. john .....!ubc-vision!fornax!bby-bc!john
