I know its not buffering the data in memory when it rereads the tape to compare with and it seems to access disk just as much. I know BACKUP/COMPARE does since it gives error message by disk bblock of file for differences. Come to think of it so does BACKUP/verify ... now if DEC would just release VMS BACKUP for Ultrix (Ala their FOrtran, C and LISP products.)
